The Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers defeated the Delhi SG Pipers in the Hero Women’s Hockey India League (2024-25) at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium on Wednesday. Kathryn Mullan (21’ and 33’) scored twice to secure the victory for the Bengal Tigers.

The match began with an intense first quarter, as both teams battled for control in midfield. The only scoring opportunity came in the 13th minute when the Bengal Tigers earned a penalty corner, but Captain Udita’s shot was well-defended by the SG Pipers.

The Delhi SG Pipers started the second quarter strongly and earned their first penalty corner. However, Deepika’s drag flick was superbly saved by Bengal Tigers’ goalkeeper Jennifer Rizzo. The breakthrough came in the 21st minute when Mullan skillfully brought the ball to the edge of the circle and, with her back to the goal, managed to beat SG Pipers’ goalkeeper Bansari Solanki to open the scoring.

The Bengal Tigers maintained their grip on the game by defending their 23-meter zone effectively and launching counterattacks to test the SG Pipers’ defense.

The Tigers doubled their lead early in the third quarter when Mullan scored her second goal, thanks to a brilliant setup by Lalremsiami. The Indian forward made a dazzling solo run down the right flank and along the goalline before delivering a perfect pass for Mullan to tap in.

In response, the SG Pipers increased their attacking intensity, making 13 circle penetrations in the third quarter. However, the Bengal Tigers’ defense stood strong, limiting the Pipers to just three shots on target.

The fourth quarter followed a similar pattern, with the SG Pipers piling on the pressure. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t find a way past the resilient Bengal Tigers’ defense, who held firm to claim an important win.

This victory takes the Bengal Tigers to seven points, three behind JSW Soorma Club and Odisha Warriors. To keep their hopes of reaching the final alive, the Bengal Tigers must achieve a big win in their last game against Soorma Hockey Club.
