The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala has indefinitely suspended its visa and consular services following a security breach during a protest near the mission’s office.

A public notice displayed outside the mission’s gates in the Kunjaban area read: “All visa and consular services at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission, Agartala will remain suspended until further notice.”
The suspension follows a massive demonstration on Monday near the Bangladesh mission, where thousands protested the arrest of Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das and alleged violence against the Hindu community in Bangladesh.
Some protesters reportedly breached the premises of the Assistant High Commission and vandalized property, prompting swift condemnation from authorities. The incident, which involved protesters entering the premises, has sparked concerns over diplomatic security in the northeastern Indian state of Tripura, which shares a border with Bangladesh
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi called the incident “deeply regrettable” and assured that measures were being taken to address the breach.
The suspension of visa services comes at a time of heightened tensions following attacks on minority communities in Bangladesh. Observers note that the incident underscores the fragile security situation in border areas and the impact of regional political shifts on cross-border relations.
