Bangladesh Recalls 5 Envoys, Including India, Brussels And Lisbon

Published:

In the latest development from India’s neighbouring country, Bangladesh, the interim government has notified its envoy in New Delhi to return to Dhaka as part of its ongoing changes in the country’s mission abroad.

According to reports, it’s not just New Delhi; the government has also asked envoys deployed in Brussels, Canberra, Lisbon, and the Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York to return immediately.

The Foreign Ministry has instructed the envoys to transfer their responsibility and return immediately.

This is not the first time that Bangladesh has recalled its envoy. Saida Muna Tasneem, the high commissioner or ambassador to Britain, was also asked to return similarly.

This move comes at a time when the relationship between the two countries is fragile. The  Sheikh Hasina government collapsed in early August following months-long protests led by student organisations. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus is right now leading the country.
