Ayodhya, 30th Jan. Ayodhya, the revered temple town, witnessed a significant surge of devotees on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, joining the ongoing religious fervor in Prayagraj. As lakhs of pilgrims flocked to the holy city of Prayagraj for the ‘Mauni Amavasya snan,’ Ayodhya too saw an overwhelming influx of devotees, all making their way to the sacred Saryu River and the grand Ram Temple.
In the early hours of the morning, a stream of devotees gathered on the banks of the Saryu River, taking a holy dip in silence, a practice marking the auspicious day. Following the ritual bath, the faithful made their way towards the grand Ram Temple to offer prayers to Lord Ram. The town reverberated with the spiritual chants of “Shri Ram,” encapsulating the essence of the day.
Throughout the day, Ayodhya remained packed with worshippers, with long queues forming outside prominent temples like the Ram Mandir and Hanumangarhi. As pilgrims from the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj made their way to Ayodhya, the influx of devotees only intensified. In anticipation of this large crowd, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had already instructed authorities to ensure smooth crowd management.
Top government officials coordinated meticulously to ensure that the devotees had a seamless experience with darshan and puja. According to government estimates, over 50 lakh devotees have already arrived in Ayodhya in the past 72 hours, with the numbers expected to keep rising until Basant Panchami.
One of the busiest spots during the day was the Saryu ghats, where thousands gathered for a holy dip, with Chaudhary Charan Singh Ghat witnessing the highest number of pilgrims. After completing their ritual, many devotees headed to Hanumangarhi and then proceeded to the Ram Lala idol for darshan.
The crowd stretched from Shringar Haat all the way to the temple premises, creating an intense spiritual atmosphere that filled the air. Similar scenes were seen at the Ram Temple, where devotees stood in long queues to pay their respects.
As the number of pilgrims surged, the local economy experienced a noticeable boom. Vendors selling ‘prasad,’ local businesses, and hoteliers all saw a significant increase in their sales and bookings. Homestay operators also reported higher-than-usual reservations as pilgrims sought accommodations in Ayodhya during this auspicious period.
In response to the massive crowd, authorities have taken extensive security measures. Vehicle entry into the fair area has been prohibited, and there is a heavy police presence to ensure the smooth flow of people and maintain law and order.
The Health Department has been placed on high alert, with all doctors’ leaves canceled until Basant Panchami. To cater to medical needs, 13 temporary health camps have been set up across the city. These emergency medical services will remain operational 24/7 throughout the pilgrimage season. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pushpendra Kumar assured that the health infrastructure is well-equipped to handle any medical emergencies.
As Ayodhya continues to host millions of pilgrims, both the spiritual and economic pulse of the city thrives amidst the fervor of the Mauni Amavasya celebrations.
