Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh: In a spectacular celestial moment steeped in devotion and technology, ‘Surya Tilak’ — a divine beam of sunlight — illuminated the forehead of Ram Lalla at the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya precisely at 12 noon on Sunday, marking the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami.

The event, celebrated on the ninth day of the Chaitra month, symbolises the birth of Lord Ram, and was witnessed by thousands of devotees gathered at the temple and across the nation.
The ‘Surya Tilak’ phenomenon, which lasted for about six minutes, is made possible by an intricate optical system comprising a network of lenses and mirrors that channel a single ray of sunlight directly onto the deity’s forehead. The installation was specially designed and implemented by scientists from the CSIR-Central Building Research Institute (CBRI).

This system ensures that every Ram Navami, the sun’s rays align perfectly to form a celestial tilak on the idol of Ram Lalla, offering a symbolic mark of divinity and cosmic connection.
As the golden ray touched the idol’s forehead, chants of “Jai Shri Ram” echoed throughout the grand temple complex. Devotees watched in awe as the Surya Tilak lit up the sanctum sanctorum, marking a divine affirmation of Lord Ram’s presence.
Many described the moment as “miraculous”, blending spiritual fervour with scientific brilliance. The Ram Temple Trust had made special arrangements to live-stream the event for millions across the country and abroad.
Temple officials confirmed that the alignment and functioning of the Surya Tilak system were checked multiple times to ensure accuracy. The system has been calibrated so that each year on Ram Navami, the sun’s rays fall on the deity’s forehead at precisely the same moment, representing a symbolic rebirth of light, divinity, and dharma.
This year’s Ram Navami marked the first grand celebration after the formal consecration of the Ram Lalla idol earlier in January. The Surya Tilak event, long envisioned, has now become the highlight of the spiritual calendar, offering a mesmerising blend of devotion and innovation.
