Nagpur, 30th Sept. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized the need for self-reliance and caution regarding government assistance during an event organized by the Vidarbha Economic Development Council. He said that dependency on any political party’s government can be risky, comparing it to a “poisonous snake” that can lead to downfall.
Gadkari highlighted the uncertainty surrounding subsidies, sharing a personal anecdote about his son’s inquiry regarding the timing of a ₹450 crore subsidy. “I told him to pray to God because there’s no assurance of when or if it will come,” he remarked.
He noted that existing subsidy programs, like the Ladli Bahna scheme, have complicated disbursements.
During his address, Gadkari also pointed out the challenges faced by the textile industry in the region due to a lack of power subsidies.
He urged businesses to plan independently, stating, “We must rely on our own resources.” He further lamented the shortage of investors willing to commit to large-scale investments in Vidarbha, which hampers significant projects from taking off.
Gadkari mentioned recent discussions with industrialist Sajjan Jindal regarding potential electric vehicle initiatives but expressed frustration over the lack of substantial units in Nagpur.
“Many existing units in Butibori are either inactive or landowners are not utilizing their properties,” he noted, stressing the need for a more vibrant industrial environment to attract investment.
