Guwahati, 7th Oct. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially launched the distribution of Soil Health Cards (SHC) to more than four lakh farmers across the state on Monday. Speaking at an event, Sarma announced that the government aims to distribute around 10 lakh SHCs, with four lakh cards already prepared for distribution.
“Our Krishak bandhus are the anchors in our mission of Atmanirbhar Assam. I am dedicating several initiatives for our farmers today,” Sarma stated. He highlighted the significant increase in soil testing facilities, noting that the number of laboratories has risen from five to 26 to better assess soil quality.
In addition to the SHC distribution, the Chief Minister also handed over agricultural machinery to farmers and inaugurated agriculture knowledge centres. “We are in the process of establishing 816 village agriculture equipment banks, up from only 80 previously,” Sarma revealed during his address.
The government is also set to launch 96 agriculture knowledge centres and 93 agriculture development offices, further supporting the farming community in Assam.
