Guwahati: In a significant step towards fostering inclusivity and social justice, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced the creation of a dedicated shelter home for transgender individuals in Guwahati. This announcement, made during the current Assam Budget session, aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for the transgender community, ensuring they have access to essential resources and a dignified place to live.
This shelter, the first of its kind in the region, will be situated in Guwahati and will specifically address the needs of transgender individuals. The initiative is part of the state government’s broader mission to cultivate an inclusive society where all communities, particularly marginalized groups, are afforded equal rights and opportunities. The shelter will not only provide housing for transgender individuals but will also offer a variety of services aimed at enhancing their quality of life.
