New Delhi, 23rd Sept. Arvind Krishna, the CEO of IBM, stands out as one of the highest-paid executives globally, with an impressive annual salary of approximately ₹165 crore, translating to around ₹45 lakh per day. His compensation saw a significant increase of ₹30 crore in 2023 alone.
Having joined IBM in 1990, Krishna has dedicated 34 years to the company, ascending through various roles before becoming CEO in 2020. His leadership has been pivotal in steering IBM towards substantial achievements, including the landmark acquisition of Red Hat for $34 billion.
Krishna’s journey is akin to a cinematic tale. Starting as a junior employee, he steadily climbed the corporate ladder to reach the position of Senior Vice President before taking the helm as CEO. He holds 15 patents, showcasing his technological acumen and innovative mindset.
Born in Andhra Pradesh to a military family—his father an officer in the Indian Army and his mother an advocate for widows of soldiers—Krishna’s roots are deeply embedded in service and education. He completed his schooling in Tamil Nadu and Dehradun before enrolling at the prestigious IIT Kanpur. After finishing his engineering degree, he moved to the U.S. to pursue a PhD in Electrical Engineering, where he landed a job at IBM, which transformed his life.
Under Krishna’s leadership, IBM has solidified its status as one of the world’s largest technology companies, with a market valuation exceeding ₹14.5 lakh crore. His salary increase underscores his critical role in driving the company’s growth and innovation.
Notably, IBM once hired Ratan Tata, a titan of Indian industry, when he returned to India after his studies in the U.S., highlighting the company’s longstanding legacy in nurturing top talent. As one of the oldest and largest IT firms globally, IBM continues to evolve under visionary leaders like Krishna.
