New Delhi, 2nd Feb.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging attacks on his party workers ahead of the February 5 Delhi Assembly election. He has demanded that the poll body appoint independent observers in his New Delhi constituency and take immediate action against BJP workers and police officials allegedly involved in the incidents.

In his letter, Kejriwal expressed “grave concern” over the alleged intimidation and harassment of AAP volunteers, accusing BJP workers and Delhi Police of trying to suppress his party’s grassroots campaign. He claimed that a senior AAP volunteer was unlawfully detained and charged under Section 126 of BNSS, 2023, despite having no prior criminal record. The AAP leader further alleged that the volunteer was subjected to physical abuse by police officers, leading him to faint during detention.

Kejriwal also cited multiple incidents of violence and threats against AAP workers, particularly in the New Delhi constituency. He claimed that BJP members had threatened the families of AAP volunteers, warning them that their homes and shops would be destroyed if they continued supporting his party. In one such instance, he named a BJP worker, Raju Matiala, who allegedly issued threats to AAP supporters in Kali Bari Marg.

The AAP chief also highlighted the alleged assault on AAP MLA Mohinder Goyal during a public rally in Rohini on Saturday. Goyal, the AAP candidate from Rithala, was interacting with residents when the incident took place. Kejriwal accused the BJP of orchestrating systematic efforts to intimidate and suppress his party’s campaign through unlawful detentions and threats.

Alongside Kejriwal’s complaint, AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has also written to the Election Commission, alleging that BJP workers attacked AAP campaigners and tried to prevent them from canvassing in Kejriwal’s constituency.

The New Delhi assembly constituency is witnessing a triangular contest, with Kejriwal facing off against BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit. The 70-member Delhi Assembly will go to polls on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8. As tensions escalate, the electoral battle between BJP, AAP, and Congress is set to become even more intense in the final days of campaigning.
