With the ongoing diplomatic row between India and Canada, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dialled UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday.
According to the official statement issued from the Canadian Prime Minister’s Office, Trudeau and Starmer discussed the recent developments related to a targeted campaign against Canadian citizens by agents linked to the Government of India.
The leaders discussed the need to ensure the safety and security of their citizens and the importance of upholding and respecting the rule of law. Prime Minister Trudeau underscored Canada’s continued interest in cooperation with India to address this serious matter.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Starmer agreed to remain in close and regular contact.
The conversation came after India withdrew some diplomats from Ottawa and expelled six Canadian officials from New Delhi. The action came as Canada implicated several Indian High Commissioners and diplomats in its investigation into Nijjar’s killing.
New Delhi has criticised the Trudeau government, stating that it has not provided evidence to support its claims.
Trudeau said his government had shared all the information with its Five Eyes partners, the United States, in particular, all information they have related to the allegations of the involvement of Indian officials in the killing of a Canadian national last year.
