New Delhi, 1st Oct. Air Chief Marshal AP Singh officially assumed the role of Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) during a ceremony at Air Headquarters (Vayu Bhawan) on September 30, 2024.
Commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force (IAF) on December 21, 1984, Air Chief Marshal Singh is an esteemed alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and National Defence College. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and an Experimental Test Pilot, with over 5,000 hours of service flying experience on various fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
His operational tenures include serving as the Commanding Officer of a MiG-27 Squadron and as the Air Officer Commanding of an air base. Singh also played a pivotal role as the Project Director (Flight Test) at the National Flight Test Centre, overseeing the flight testing of the Tejas aircraft, and led the MiG-29 Upgrade Project Management Team in Moscow.
With a distinguished career spanning four decades, he has held numerous staff positions, including Air Defence Commander at HQ South Western Air Command and Senior Air Staff Officer at Eastern Air Command. Before his appointment as CAS, he served as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff.
Singh is a recipient of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM). In his inaugural address to the IAF, he expressed his honor and privilege in leading the force and extended greetings to all personnel, including Air Warriors, Non-Combatants, and civilian staff.
Highlighting the importance of maintaining the IAF’s operational capability, Singh called for nurturing leadership, enhanced cohesion, and jointness among commanders. He acknowledged the current geopolitical uncertainties and emphasized the need for the IAF to remain vigilant and credible. He concluded with an inspiring message for all air warriors to uphold the traditions of the service and “Touch the Sky with Glory.”
