Amid growing tensions between the United States and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, Russia has stepped forward, offering to mediate and urging a diplomatic resolution. The Kremlin reaffirmed its commitment on Monday, stating that Moscow would make every possible effort to ease the situation and prevent further escalation.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized Russia’s active engagement with Iran on the nuclear issue, highlighting ongoing diplomatic consultations. “We are in constant consultations with our Iranian partners, including on the topic of the nuclear deal,” Peskov said, stressing that Russia remains committed to defusing the crisis through political dialogue.
The tensions stem from former U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the 2015 nuclear deal, which had placed strict limitations on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Tehran maintains that its nuclear activities are solely for peaceful purposes, rejecting accusations that it seeks to develop nuclear weapons.
Despite Trump’s calls for direct talks, Iran has resisted pressure, with a senior Iranian official recently warning neighboring countries that host U.S. military bases that they could be at risk if hostilities escalate. Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov criticized Trump’s rhetoric about bombing Iran, warning that such actions could have catastrophic consequences for the broader region.
