Chandigarh: Chandigarh DGP Surendra Singh Yadav was transferred on Tuesday amid ongoing tensions within the police department. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the transfer order, appointing Yadav as DIG on deputation in the Border Security Force (BSF). Until a new appointment is made, IG Rajkumar Singh will take charge as the acting DGP of Chandigarh.

Since assuming office as DGP, Yadav has been at the center of controversies, primarily due to large-scale transfers of police personnel. Recently, his decision to appoint a sub-inspector as a station house officer (SHO) raised eyebrows. He had also warned that if SHOs failed to perform effectively, sub-inspectors would be given the opportunity to take their positions. These decisions reportedly led to dissatisfaction among senior officers, fueling tensions within the department.
Speculations suggest that Yadav’s premature transfer was a result of the ongoing power struggle within the police force. His move to the BSF follows the Punjab government’s recent reshuffling of 2 IPS and 14 PPS officers, with some being transferred to the Vigilance Bureau.
