On Monday, China expressed its “appreciation” for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks about India-China relations on Lex Fridman’s podcast, where he spoke about the importance of cooperation between the two nations. Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said that China had taken note of PM Modi’s statement and valued it.
Mao Ning highlighted the long history of friendly interactions between India and China, saying, “In more than 2,000 years of exchanges, the two countries have maintained cordial relations, learning from one another and contributing to global civilizational achievements and progress.”
During the podcast, PM Modi emphasized the need to strengthen India-China ties, noting that competition should not lead to conflict, and differences should not turn into disputes.
“Historically, India and China have learned from each other. Together, we have made significant global contributions. At one time, India and China accounted for more than 50% of the world’s GDP, which shows India’s massive contribution. Our relationship has been strong, with deep cultural bonds,” PM Modi shared with Lex Fridman.
He acknowledged the differences between the two nations but stressed that both sides are committed to preventing those differences from escalating into disputes. “Our focus is to ensure that these differences don’t become disputes, and we actively work toward that,” he stated.
