Ahead of his visit to India, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon reaffirmed his commitment to deepening economic and diplomatic ties with the country, calling it a key priority for his government.

New Zealand-India Ties
Announcing his visit on Monday, Luxon emphasized the strategic importance of India to New Zealand’s economic growth. “Strengthening New Zealand’s relationship with India is a key priority for my Government,” he stated.
Highlighting the significance of the visit, Luxon emphasized the growing importance of India as a global economic powerhouse. “India is the fifth largest economy in the world and I am focused on increasing trade and business opportunities between our two countries and promoting New Zealand as an investment destination,” he said. He also highlighted that expanding trade would contribute to economic growth, job creation, and higher incomes for New Zealanders.

India Visit
Luxon is set to embark on his first official visit to India from March 16-20, 2025, aiming to bolster economic and diplomatic relations between the two nations. Accompanied by a senior business delegation, Luxon’s visit underscores his government’s commitment to enhancing trade partnerships and investment opportunities with India.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Luxon will visit New Delhi and Mumbai before returning to Wellington on March 20. During his stay, he will hold high-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 17, covering various aspects of the India-New Zealand relationship. Modi will also host a luncheon in his honor. Additionally, Luxon is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu on the same day.
Beyond diplomatic engagements, Luxon will play a key role in the 10th edition of the Raisina Dialogue, India’s flagship geopolitical conference. He is set to deliver the keynote address at the event’s inaugural session, where global leaders will convene to discuss pressing international issues. Additionally, he will meet with Indian business leaders to explore potential collaborations across key industries.
