Thane, 15th Oct. In a crucial step towards enhancing public safety, the Maharashtra government has approved the installation of nearly 7,500 advanced CCTV cameras within the Thane police commissionerate limits. The decision was announced by Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre on Monday.
According to officials, 3,500 cameras will be set up in Thane city, 1,500 in Bhiwandi, and the remaining in various other areas under the commissionerate. The new surveillance system will feature cutting-edge technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), facial recognition, and Red Light Violation Detection (RLVD) for efficient number plate recognition.
These advancements are expected to facilitate faster identification of vehicles involved in criminal activities, thereby improving the efficiency of law enforcement. The integration of these cameras with existing systems in large public areas is part of the government’s broader vision for a safer Thane.
Police officials said that this initiative aims to create a comprehensive surveillance network, ensuring the safety and security of residents from multiple angles.
