Imphal, 14th Oct. For the first time since the outbreak of ethnic violence in Manipur last year, MLAs from the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities are set to convene for a joint meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday. The talks, facilitated under the supervision of the Union Home Ministry, aim to address the ongoing crisis in the northeastern state, officials said.
The meeting will include three Naga MLAs—Awangbou Newmai, L Dikho, and Ram Muivah—who are currently in the national capital. All three are members of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Manipur. Ram Muivah is in Delhi for a personal matter, according to official sources.
While the number of participating Meitei and Kuki MLAs is yet to be confirmed, a few Meitei legislators, all from the BJP, have already traveled to New Delhi, with others expected to arrive later today.
This meeting marks a significant effort by the central government to encourage dialogue between the conflicting communities in Manipur, where over 200 lives have been lost since the violence erupted in May 2023. The aim is to seek a peaceful resolution and foster understanding among the various ethnic groups in the state.
