Mumbai, 13th Oct. Authorities are currently verifying a social media post in which an alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claims responsibility for the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique. The 66-year-old Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader was shot at by three assailants at Kher Nagar, near his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office, on Saturday night. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to police sources, they have encountered a viral post allegedly linked to a member of the Bishnoi gang, and they are in the process of confirming its authenticity. A police official stated, “We have seen the viral social media post; we are verifying its authenticity.”
This incident follows the arrest of several Bishnoi gang members related to a shooting incident outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence earlier this year. Siddique was a prominent Muslim leader in Mumbai, known for his connections with several Bollywood stars, including Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Sanjay Dutt.
The Mumbai police have launched a comprehensive investigation into Siddique’s murder, exploring various angles, including potential contract killing, business rivalry, or threats linked to a slum rehabilitation project. Law enforcement officials believe the murder was likely pre-planned.
Siddique’s body was transported from Lilavati Hospital to Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle for an autopsy. Following the postmortem, the body will be taken to his residence at Maqba Heights in Bandra for public viewing later in the evening. The NCP leader’s burial is scheduled at Bada Kabrastan in Marine Lines after the Namaz-E-Isha prayer at 8:30 PM.
Enhanced security measures have been implemented outside his home to ensure safety as friends, family, and supporters gather to pay their final respects.
