According to reports, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu is expected to visit India starting October 7.
This will be Muizzu’s first bilateral visit to India since assuming office last year. However, technically, it is his second visit to the country this year after attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony earlier this June.
On the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Muizzu told ANI that he plans to visit India as soon as possible. He also praised the “very strong” bilateral relationship between the two countries.”
“I am planning to visit (India) as soon as possible. We have a very strong bilateral relationship,” said Muizzu.
Every Maldivian President used to make his first foreign visit to India for years, but Muizzu changed the trend when he came to power and made Turkiye and China his first foreign visit.
The Mohamed Muizzu government in the Maldives took a reconciliatory tone after ties with India soured, leading to a diplomatic row.
