Two Mexican soldiers were relieved from their duties after they fired upon a truck carrying migrants from India, Pakistan, Nepal and several other countries near the Guatemala border, resulting in the deaths of six migrants, Mexico’s Defence Department reported on Wednesday.
According to reports, soldiers claimed that they heard gunfire as the truck approached their position late Monday in Chiapas, near Huixtla.
Four migrants died on the spot, and 12 others were injured. According to media reports, two migrants from the 12 injured later died.
It is still unclear if any weapons were found inside the truck or if the migrants died of the gunfire. Apart from the 12 injured, it’s been reported that 17 were unharmed.
The soldiers have been relieved from their duties till the investigation is on.
