Guwahati- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the state’s industrial roadmap ‘Advantage Assam 2. 0’ on Friday. He said the initiative would turn Assam into a manufacturing and technology hub through focus on green energy, industrial investment and business outsourcing. It will position the state as a major contributor to India’s economic growth, he said.
Speaking at the launch, Sarma said the state was committed to sustainable development and green energy would play a major role in attracting industries. “Assam is poised to take a big industrial leap by harnessing clean energy, modern infrastructure and investor-friendly policies, ” he said.
He said Assam’s strategic location, improved connectivity and ongoing infrastructure projects make it an attractive investment destination. Under *Advantage Assam 2. 0*, the state will focus on sectors such as electric vehicles, renewable energy, biotechnology and IT-enabled services. It will provide incentives to investors such as land banks, tax benefits and simplified approval processes.
The second big challenge, he said, is job creation. “Business process outsourcing (BPO) and IT companies are being encouraged to come to Assam and create employment opportunities for the youth, ” Sarma said. “Skill development programmes are also being planned to prepare the workforce keeping in view the emerging requirements of industries. ”
With this plan, the state government wants to emerge as the investment hub of the Northeast and promote green growth. The government will organise business summits and investor meets to attract both domestic and global players.
As Assam embarks on this journey, the new version of Advantage Assam would open up huge economic opportunities for the State and would establish it as a green and industrial hub.
