Jammu- The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed due to heavy snow accumulation between Ramsoo and Qazigund, as well as landslides, shooting stones, and mudslides between Nashri and the NAVYUG Tunnel, officials said on Friday.

The closure has stranded numerous vehicles, including trucks, passenger buses, and private vehicles, at Jakhani in Udhampur. Traffic police have restricted movement beyond Jakhani due to hazardous road conditions.
Meanwhile, Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, witnessed a fresh spell of rain, while the districts of Doda and Bhalesa reported heavy snowfall. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has deployed teams for snow clearance at Srinagar airport, where fresh snowfall has disrupted operations.
The ongoing rain and snow, persisting for over 36 hours, have caused a sharp dip in temperature across the region. Interestingly, farmers have welcomed the snowfall, considering it beneficial for crops. Unlike previous snowfalls that raised concerns about financial losses, this spell is expected to support agricultural activities.
In Himachal Pradesh, Lahaul and Spiti have been blanketed under heavy snowfall, prompting authorities to issue an avalanche alert for February 28. The Lahaul and Spiti Police have urged residents and travelers to exercise caution.
Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for four districts in Himachal Pradesh—Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi—forecasting heavy rain and snowfall from February 26 to 28. Jammu, Kashmir, and parts of Himachal Pradesh continue to experience incessant rain and snow, with weather conditions expected to remain severe until February 28.
