Avalanche Buries 57 Workers Near Indo-Tibetan Border in Uttarakhand; Rescue Ops Underway

Published:

Chamoli- An avalanche struck Mana village near the Indo-Tibetan border in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, reportedly burying 57 workers engaged in road construction. Ten workers have been rescued in critical condition and shifted to an army camp near Mana. Rescue operations are ongoing.

The incident took place around 3 km ahead of Badrinath Dham near a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp. Authorities, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), district administration, and BRO teams, are at the site conducting rescue efforts.

BRO Executive Engineer C.R. Meena told ANI that three to four ambulances have been dispatched, but heavy snowfall has delayed their arrival.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Uttarakhand and other hilly regions, predicting very heavy rain of up to 20 cm until late Friday night. The IMD has warned of possible localised flooding, waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and reduced visibility due to heavy rainfall.

Rescue teams are working amid challenging weather conditions to locate and assist the trapped workers.
