New Delhi, 30th Sept. In a strong reaction to the elevation of Udayanidhi Stalin as Tamil Nadu’s Deputy Chief Minister, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) of prioritizing family interests over public welfare. Udayanidhi, the son of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and grandson of the late DMK leader M.K. Karunanidhi, was appointed to the No. 2 position on Saturday.

BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad slammed the move as nepotism, asserting that Udayanidhi’s only qualification was his familial connection to the Chief Minister.

“The party’s 75-year history has been marked by betrayal of Tamil Nadu interests, prioritizing family interests over public welfare,” he stated.

The BJP also condemned the DMK for sidelining its partners in government and questioned Stalin’s decision to reinstate Senthil Balaji, a senior leader recently released on bail related to money laundering charges. Pradeep Bhandari, another BJP spokesperson, echoed the nepotism allegations, stating, “There is no merit except being the CM’s son… All of them are only focused on family interests.”

In response to the criticisms, Udayanidhi expressed his commitment to serving Tamil Nadu, acknowledging the weight of the responsibility entrusted to him. “It’s a big responsibility. The Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers trusted me. There will be criticism, and I have always listened to it. I’ll try my best to do my best for the people of Tamil Nadu,” he said.

DMK MP Kanimozhi defended her brother’s appointment, emphasizing that the Chief Minister was elected to make such decisions. “I don’t think the opposition parties can make that decision or question the CM’s decision regarding the cabinet,” she remarked.

As the political landscape continues to evolve in Tamil Nadu, the DMK’s latest appointments and the BJP’s strong criticisms set the stage for an ongoing debate about nepotism and governance in the state.
