Guwahati, 29th Sept. Written examinations for recruitment to Grade III posts in the Assam government are being held across the state on Sunday under tight security arrangements. In a bid to prevent malpractices, mobile internet services have been suspended for eight hours, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. This is the second internet shutdown in September for the Assam Direct Recruitment Examinations (ADRE).
A total of 7,34,080 candidates are eligible to appear for the second phase of ADRE, which covers both bachelor’s degree level and HSLC level posts. The exams are being conducted in two shifts—9:00 am to 12:00 pm, and 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
An official release from the State Level Recruitment Commission (SLRC) for Class-III Posts emphasized that the internet shutdown is aimed at ensuring a free, fair, and transparent examination process. The commission noted that in previous exams, unscrupulous elements attempted to use mobile apps and social media platforms like Facebook, X, and Telegram to spread misinformation and engage in unfair practices.
“Anti-social elements may try to take advantage of the situation by spreading rumors or selling fake question papers through social media,” the release warned. To prevent any loopholes in the process, the government has taken these precautionary steps.
Candidates were given strict instructions to ensure smooth conduct of the exam. They were advised to locate their examination centers in advance and report at least one and a half hours before the exam for thorough frisking. Special measures, including separate enclosures for female candidates, have been put in place after allegations of improper frisking during the first phase of exams in September.
In addition to the suspension of mobile services, six special trains were arranged by the Northeast Frontier Railway to assist candidates in reaching their exam centers.
Around 18.50 lakh candidates have applied for Grade III posts, while 13.70 lakh candidates have applied for Grade IV posts. Further examinations for Grade IV positions will be held on upcoming dates, as per official sources. The ADRE process, first launched in August 2022, has seen repeated suspensions of mobile internet services during examination periods.
