Nepal Hit By Devastating Rainfall, Over 60 Dead As Rescue Operations Continue

Nepal is reeling from the effects of relentless rainfall, which has claimed the lives of at least 60 people across the country. The government has launched a large-scale search and rescue operation, deploying more than 20,000 security personnel to assist those affected by widespread floods, landslides, and waterlogging.

In the Kathmandu Valley, which includes the cities of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur, 34 people lost their lives in a single day due to landslides and severe flooding. Other districts in the Bagmati Province reported an additional 19 deaths, while Koshi Province recorded 7 fatalities over the past 24 hours.

Rescue operations are ongoing as dozens remain missing, and security agencies are working around the clock to locate and assist those stranded. The Nepal Army, Armed Police Force (APF), and Nepal Police have so far rescued over 1,400 individuals from dangerous situations. Helicopters, motorboats, and advanced rescue techniques, including zip-line and long-line methods, are being used to evacuate people to safety.

Authorities have issued warnings for 56 out of the country’s 77 districts, advising residents to exercise extreme caution. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has reported that the floods, landslides, and erosion have caused significant damage in 44 districts, with road networks in 39 districts completely blocked.
