Karnataka, 28th September. A petition has been filed in the Karnataka High Court seeking a CBI probe into the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam involving Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The petitioner, social activist Snehamayi Krishna, called for the investigation to be conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) instead of the Karnataka Lokayukta, citing concerns over Lokayukta’s partiality due to its association with the state government.
Snehamayi Krishna emphasized the need for an impartial investigation, stating, “We have asked for a CBI inquiry as the Lokayukta functions under the purview of the government and the Chief Minister of Karnataka.” She further highlighted that a special court had criticized the Lokayukta’s handling of the case, adding that the people of Karnataka are aware of the irregularities.
The petition refers to the alleged illegal allotment of 14 MUDA sites worth ₹56 crore to CM Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi. The case gained traction after a Special Court in Bengaluru directed the Lokayukta to investigate the matter and submit its findings within three months. This order followed the Karnataka High Court’s lifting of an interim stay that had been placed on the investigation.
Advocate Vasant Kumar, representing Krishna, explained that the writ petition, filed on Friday, is aimed at securing a directive from the High Court to transfer the investigation to the CBI. “We have requested the High Court for a CBI inquiry into the MUDA scam, as it is a serious matter. The hearing is expected on Monday,” he said.
The petition underscores the need for transparency and fairness in the investigation, particularly in light of past criticisms leveled against state agencies for their handling of similar cases.
