Gujarat Giants (GG) begin their Bengaluru leg today as they take on Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. DC is coming off a loss against UP Warriorz (UPW) at the same venue. With UPW winning two back-to-back matches, DC have slipped to fourth place with four points from four games. GG, on the other hand, are fifth with just two points from three matches.

A Must-Win Game for Both Teams
A defeat here will make things harder for DC in their playoff race, while for GG, this match could define their season. Their big names—especially the top-order batters—must step up for that to happen. So far, their top-order has struggled in this tournament.
In WPL’s history, DC have won three of their four matches against GG. Last season, they faced each other once at this same venue, where DC secured the win. Chinnaswamy has not been a happy hunting ground for GG, as they have lost all four of their matches here. In search of their first-ever win at this venue, they face a tough challenge against DC.
GG’s Top Order – A Major Concern
GG’s top order has been one of their biggest concerns. Despite having big names like Beth Mooney and Laura Wolvaardt, their top three—including Dayalan Hemalatha—have failed this season. Among all five teams, GG’s top three have scored the fewest runs—just 102 in three innings—with an average of 11.33 and a strike rate of 92.72.

Beth Mooney started well with a fifty in the opening game but has since struggled; scoring a duck and one run in the next two games. Wolvaardt looks hesitant while playing her shots, managing just 32 runs in three innings, with a highest score of 22. Hemalatha has scored only 13 runs and has fallen to spinners in every game.
Before the tournament, GG had to choose between Wolvaardt and Phoebe Litchfield. They went with Wolvaardt, but she has yet to deliver. It remains to be seen whether she gets another chance today or if Litchfield replaces her. Similarly, GG backed Hemalatha at No. 3 instead of Harleen Deol, but she has struggled, especially against spin, despite her domestic experience.
Can GG’s Top-Order Find Form Against DC?
Despite their poor form, GG’s top-order might have an opportunity to bounce back today. DC’s powerplay bowling has been inconsistent this season. In four matches, they have taken only four wickets while conceding 202 runs at an economy of 8.41.
This could be the chance for GG’s top three to find form, build a solid platform, and help their team post a competitive total. With their season hanging in the balance, can GG’s batters finally step up, or will DC’s bowlers tighten their grip on the proceedings?
