New Delhi, 25th Sept. In her first press conference after assuming office as the Chief Minister of Delhi, Atishi on Wednesday announced revised minimum wages for workers in the unorganised sector. The new wages will see unskilled workers earning ₹18,066, semi-skilled workers ₹19,929, and skilled workers ₹21,917 per month.
Atishi highlighted that the minimum wages implemented by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal are the highest in the country.
She praised the Kejriwal government for its efforts to ensure fair compensation for labourers in the capital, stating that these wages are designed to uplift the working class in Delhi.
In a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Atishi accused the party of being “anti-poor” and claimed that the wages in BJP-ruled states were “perhaps half of what is being paid in Delhi.”
She added that despite obstruction from the BJP, the Kejriwal government not only implemented these minimum wages but also ensured their revision twice a year, providing relief to labourers amidst rising costs of living.
The move is seen as part of the AAP’s ongoing commitment to improve the working conditions and income of workers in the capital, distinguishing its policies from those of BJP-ruled states.
