Shimla, 25th Sept. Himachal Pradesh will soon mandate restaurants and eateries to display the names of their owners and staff, following a policy adopted by the Uttar Pradesh government. The rule, set to be implemented in January starting with the state capital Shimla, aims to ensure food hygiene and transparency, said Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh.
Preparations, including the issuance of identity cards, are already underway.
Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh confirmed the development, stating that preparations, including the issuance of identity cards, will take place before the new rules are enforced.
“We have decided to strictly enforce the rules in the state, much like Uttar Pradesh,” Singh told reporters, adding that the measure is intended to address concerns over food safety and hygiene.
“The Urban Development Ministry and the Municipal Corporation collectively took this decision after considering public concerns about the hygiene of food served at local food stalls,” Singh said.
Earlier this year, the Uttar Pradesh government sparked controversy when it mandated the display of names of eatery owners, managers, and staff, particularly along the routes of the Kanwar Yatra. The order faced backlash but was defended by the state government as a means to promote transparency and provide kanwariyas with an informed choice about the food they consume during their pilgrimage.
The need for such regulations intensified following reports of unhygienic practices in eateries across Uttar Pradesh.
