Tirumala, 6th Feb.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), the governing body of the renowned Tirupati temple, has taken disciplinary action against 18 employees who are alleged to be following non-Hindu practices, despite taking an oath to uphold the Hindu faith upon joining the temple.

The 18 employees have been barred from participating in any religious activities associated with the temple, and they have been instructed to transfer to positions unrelated to temple duties. The TTD clarified that the decision aligns with its commitment to maintaining the spiritual sanctity of the temple and its religious practices.

As per the TTD’s resolution, these employees will either be transferred to other government departments or given the option to exit the organization through the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS). TTD chairman BR Naidu emphasized in a previous statement to NDTV that Tirumala must remain a symbol of Hindu faith and sanctity, reinforcing the decision for strict action against the employees.

The TTD’s statement stated that the employees, while partaking in Hindu religious festivals and activities organized by the temple, had been found to be involved in non-Hindu religious activities, which, according to the board, undermines the sentiments, beliefs, and sanctity held by millions of Hindu devotees.

When joining the temple, all employees take an oath in front of the photo or idol of Lord Venkateshwara to follow Hindu faith and traditions. The TTD has now stated that the actions of these employees have tarnished the prestige of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams.

In a follow-up order, two senior officials of the TTD have been assigned the task of verifying the current postings of these employees. They have been instructed to ensure that the employees are not placed in any positions that involve the temple, religious activities, or related work.

This decision comes at a time when the TTD is focusing on preserving the religious integrity of its operations and safeguarding the cultural and spiritual values associated with the Tirupati temple.
