New Delhi, 4th Feb. With less than 24 hours remaining before the Delhi Assembly polls, a police case has been filed against Chief Minister Atishi, a candidate from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The case, related to disobedience, was registered at Govindpuri police station under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
According to Delhi Police, Atishi, along with 50-70 supporters and 10 vehicles, was found at Fateh Singh Marg. When asked to vacate the area as per poll code guidelines, the group reportedly refused to comply. The situation escalated when a supporter of Atishi allegedly slapped a police officer filming the Chief Minister’s cavalcade.
In response to the police action, Atishi accused Ramesh Bidhuri’s family, BJP’s candidate from Kalkaji, of openly flouting the poll code without facing any consequences. “I complained to the police and Election Commission, but they registered a case against me,” she expressed in a post on X. AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal further criticized the police and Election Commission, alleging that they were supporting the BJP’s “hooliganism” and protecting them as they allegedly distributed liquor and money.
Sources within the police indicated that the canvassing was over when Atishi was touring the Govindpuri locality with her supporters. They also accused her of engaging in an argument with the executive magistrate heading the flying squad, responsible for monitoring poll code violations.
