Amaravathi (Andhra Pradesh), 2nd Feb. YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Karthik Yellapragada has strongly criticized the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led Andhra Pradesh government for failing to secure significant budget allocations in the Union Budget 2025, despite its considerable influence at the Centre. In a self-recorded video, Karthik accused the coalition government of ineffective leadership, blaming the TDP-Jana Sena alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for neglecting the state’s developmental needs.
Andhra Pradesh Overlooked While Bihar Secures Major Projects
Karthik highlighted that Bihar, under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has received substantial allocations in the budget, including incentives for Greenfield airports, the expansion of Patna Airport, and the Western Kosi Canal ERM project. In contrast, Andhra Pradesh has been left out of key allocations in crucial sectors such as education, agriculture, industry, and infrastructure. He questioned why, despite having 16 Members of Parliament in the NDA government, TDP failed to bring any significant financial support to the state.
People of Andhra Pradesh “Cheated” by Coalition Government, Says YSRCP
Expressing disappointment, Karthik stated that the people of Andhra Pradesh had been “deceived and cheated” by electing the coalition government. He pointed out that the state had been entirely excluded from major budgetary provisions, raising concerns about TDP’s influence at the Centre. He further argued that Andhra Pradesh, which played a crucial role in supporting the NDA government, had received nothing in return, while Bihar, led by another NDA partner, secured multiple infrastructure projects.
Finance Minister’s Budget Speech Highlights Bihar’s Gains
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her budget speech, announced several benefits for Bihar, where assembly elections are set to take place later this year. She declared that Greenfield airports would be developed in Bihar, along with an expansion of Patna Airport and the construction of a brownfield airport in Bihta. She also announced financial assistance for the Western Kosi Canal ERM project, which will benefit farmers cultivating over 50,000 hectares of land in the Mithilanchal region.
Chandrababu Naidu Defends Budget as “Pro-People and Progressive”
Despite the criticism from the YSRCP, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu praised the Union Budget, calling it “pro-people and progressive.” He asserted that the budget reflects the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in building a developed India (Viksit Bharat). In a post on X, Naidu stated that the budget prioritizes the welfare of women, the poor, youth, and farmers while focusing on six key sectors for growth over the next five years.
The Union Budget 2025 has sparked political controversy in Andhra Pradesh, with the YSRCP accusing the TDP-led government of failing to secure funds for the state. While Bihar has emerged as a major beneficiary in the budget, Andhra Pradesh’s absence from key allocations has fueled criticism from the opposition. As the debate continues, the focus remains on whether the state government can negotiate better financial support for Andhra Pradesh in the coming years.
