A devastating crash involving an American Airlines plane and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter has left at least 28 people confirmed dead, with more feared lost. Among the 60 passengers on the American Airlines flight was Hamaad Raza’s wife, who sent him a chilling final message just 20 minutes before the crash. She had texted him to let him know that the plane was preparing to land.
Raza, visibly emotional, shared the text with reporters: She texted me that they were landing in 20 minutes,” he said, his voice trembling. “I’m just praying that somebody is pulling her out of the river right now as we speak.”
As of now, search teams have recovered 28 bodies from the Potomac River, but many are still awaiting news about their loved ones. The aircraft, which had departed from Wichita, Kansas, was also carrying several members of the U.S. Figure Skating team.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the collision between American Airlines flight 5342 and the Black Hawk helicopter, which led to the tragic crash. The authorities are still working on identifying the victims and piecing together the details of the incident.
