Patna, 24th Jan. In a shocking development, Bihar’s Bettiah District Education Officer (DEO), Rajnikant Praveen, has been accused of amassing illicit wealth during his two decades of service. The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) conducted raids on Praveen’s properties in Bettiah, Samastipur, and Darbhanga on Thursday, uncovering a massive stash of cash.

Visuals from the raid show bundles of cash stacked on beds, with counting machines brought in to handle the sheer volume of money. At the time of the raid, Praveen was reportedly performing a prayer ritual at his Bettiah residence.

According to the SVU, Praveen allegedly misused his position to accumulate assets worth ₹1.87 crore, far exceeding his known sources of income. This includes both movable and immovable properties acquired since 2005, when he joined the Bihar Education Department as part of the 45th batch.

The raids extended to Praveen’s in-laws’ residence in Samastipur and other locations in Darbhanga. His wife, Sushuma Kumari, a former contractual teacher, is now the director of Open Mind Birla School in Darbhanga, which is suspected to have been funded by Praveen’s illegal earnings.

Praveen has held several key positions across Bihar, including postings in Darbhanga and Samastipur. Authorities are investigating further to trace the full extent of his assets and establish additional links to the alleged misuse of office.

The SVU initiated the operation based on credible information about Praveen’s disproportionate assets. As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge regarding the scale of corruption in the education department.
