Bihar is set to experience a significant surge in road development with the proposal of 10 new expressways and highways across the state. These projects are expected to enhance transportation and foster economic growth, connecting Bihar more efficiently with neighboring states. The total estimated cost for these 10 projects is approximately ₹1.43 lakh crore.

One of the major projects, the Raxaul-Haldia Greenfield Expressway, will connect Raxaul in Bihar to the Haldia Port in West Bengal. Stretching over 692 km, this 6-lane expressway will cost around ₹40,000 crore and will streamline freight movement, boosting trade in the region.

The Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, covering 520 km, will cost ₹25,000 crore and pass through several districts of Bihar, promoting the development of interior regions. Similarly, the Varanasi-Kolkata Expressway, which will span 612 km and cost ₹30,000 crore, will link Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, facilitating business and travel across the four states.

The Patna-Ara-Sasaram Expressway, costing ₹4,000 crore, will provide better connectivity to the Golden Quadrilateral, making travel from Patna to Sasaram more convenient. The Patna-Bettiah Expressway, with a cost of ₹6,500 crore, will reduce travel time between Patna and Bettiah.

Other projects include the Bakarpur-Dumaria Ghat Expressway (92 km, ₹2,200 crore), which will connect Patna with the districts of Saran, Vaishali, and Muzaffarpur; and the Patna Ring Road, a 100 km, 6-lane road costing ₹11,000 crore, which will help ease traffic congestion in Patna city.

The Munger-Mirza Chowki Expressway (125 km, ₹8,000 crore) and the Amjora-Darbhanga Expressway (198 km, ₹8,000 crore) will enhance connectivity with Jharkhand, West Bengal, and South Bihar, while the Patna-Ara-Buxar Expressway (181 km, ₹9,000 crore) will provide an elevated route linking Patna to Ara and Buxar.

These projects are expected to play a pivotal role in Bihar’s development, creating employment opportunities and strengthening the state’s economy.
