Adilabad, 20th Jan. Congress leader Kota Neelima criticized the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Sunday, labeling the party as anti-poor and anti-farmer. Her remarks came after BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) accused the Congress-led Telangana government of failing farmers, citing the recent suicide of a farmer in Adilabad.
Speaking to ANI, Neelima defended the Congress’s track record, stating, “If any political party has thought about farmers, it is Congress. BRS is anti-poor, anti-farmer, and pro-rich. They fail to understand pro-poor policies brought by our government.”
KTR had earlier posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the suicide of 50-year-old farmer Jadav Devrao, alleging that Congress’s unfulfilled promises pushed him to financial despair. He claimed Devrao died after ingesting poison at a bank, leaving behind an ailing wife and son. “This video is proof—less than 40% of farmers received the ₹2 lakh farm loan waiver Congress promised. Your Rythu Bharosa is a farce,” KTR wrote, adding that the government reneged on its ₹15,000 per acre pledge.
Responding to the allegations, Neelima accused the BRS of failing to implement their own promised schemes during their tenure. “In the last 10 years, BRS announced schemes before elections but failed to deliver. Unlike them, our Congress government, within a year, has implemented its promises,” she said.
Neelima also highlighted the need for a compassionate approach towards farmers. “When a farmer suicide happens, we must understand the reasons, support the grieving families, and fulfill government promises. The BRS did none of this,” she added.
The incident has intensified the political battle in Telangana as both parties exchange accusations over their commitment to farmers’ welfare.
