Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, 19th Jan. In the spiritually charged atmosphere of Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh, Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of the late Apple CEO Steve Jobs, has drawn attention for her deep engagement with Hinduism. Guided by Swami Kailashanand Giri, Powell Jobs has embraced the teachings of Sanatan Dharma and formally stepped into her spiritual journey on Makar Sankranti, January 14. She was given the name “Kamala” and a ‘Gotra,’ marking a significant milestone in her path, which began with the bestowal of her spiritual name a year earlier on February 18.

Swami Kailashanand Giri praised Powell Jobs for her humility and simplicity, emphasizing her commitment to spiritual enrichment over material wealth. During her four-day stay in the Shivir, Powell Jobs lived like any other devotee, despite being accompanied by around 50 personal staff and arriving with two large airplanes. Her vegetarian diet, excluding garlic and onion, underscored her dedication to her new spiritual path.

The Maha Kumbh, a festival of immense spiritual and cultural significance, began on January 15, drawing millions of devotees from across India and the globe. The first sacred dip, or Amrit Snan, took place on Makar Sankranti, with scores of pilgrims gathering at the Triveni Sangam to bathe in the holy waters, symbolizing the event’s universal spiritual appeal.

International visitors, including Powell Jobs, actively participated in devotional activities, chanting bhajans such as “Om Jai Jagdish Hare” and the “Mahishasura Mardini Stotram,” adding a global harmony to the vibrant atmosphere. The event also celebrated the unity of diverse groups of pilgrims, transcending barriers of caste, class, and language.

The tradition of Kalpavas, practiced by millions at the Sangam, highlights the inclusive and unifying spirit of the Kumbh. From traders to officials and even members of the transgender community, devotees from all walks of life converged to embrace the festival’s shared ethos of faith and devotion.

Powell Jobs’ journey at the Maha Kumbh stands as a testament to the global resonance of Sanatan Dharma and the Maha Kumbh’s capacity to inspire spiritual introspection across cultural and national boundaries.
