Dharwad, 16 Jan: Vice-President Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar today described Bharat as the most aspirational nation in the world, emphasizing the remarkable economic growth and rising aspirations among its people. Delivering the keynote address as the Chief Guest at the inaugural event of the Amrut Mahotsav and Alumni Meet of the College of Agriculture, University of Agricultural Sciences in Dharwad, Shri Dhankhar used the phrase “Yeh Dil Maange More” to capture the spirit of a nation striving for continuous progress.

The Vice-President underscored the urgent need to address farmers’ concerns, calling for their economic security and emphasizing that their issues cannot be placed on the back burner. “The distress of farmers calls for urgent national attention,” he stated. “Time is of absolute essence when it comes to finding solutions to farmers’ problems.”

Highlighting the significant role of the agricultural sector in driving the economy, Shri Dhankhar called for agro-based industries to allocate their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for the welfare of farmers and farm-sector research. He said, “Our farmers should share the profits of agro-based industries, which rely on their produce as a lifeline.”

He emphasized the importance of keeping farmers happy as a national priority and advocated for measures to alleviate their primary stresses, such as inclement weather and unpredictable market conditions. Shri Dhankhar suggested direct transfer of farm subsidies to empower farmers to adopt alternatives like organic and natural farming.

Praising the government’s creation of the National Turmeric Board, he expressed optimism about doubling turmeric production in the next five years and generating export opportunities for farmers. “This is a healing touch to turmeric farming, and similar boards for other agro-produce should be considered,” he added.

Calling for technological adoption in farming, the Vice-President stressed the role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras as nerve centers to connect farmers with modern techniques. “The farm sector needs transformation, and technology must be integrated rapidly. A positive revolution in agriculture will follow if every Krishi Vigyan Kendra connects effectively with its farmers,” he noted.

Reflecting on India’s exponential economic growth, Shri Dhankhar celebrated the nation’s rise from the fifth to the third-largest global economy within two years, its robust infrastructure development, and its digitization efforts. “India has become a nation of aspirations, where people want more after every milestone achieved. प्रधानमंत्री जी ने देश में एक वायुमंडल पैदा कर दिया, ‘YEH DIL MAANGE MORE,’” he remarked, highlighting the Prime Minister’s role in creating this atmosphere of aspiration.

The Vice-President’s address resonated with the themes of farmer welfare, economic progress, and the transformative vision of a rapidly rising Bharat.
