Mathura, 20th Sept. Rail traffic between Delhi and Mathura has resumed following the restoration of one of the railway lines that was disrupted due to a goods train derailment. Officials reported on Friday that the derailment, which occurred on Wednesday between Vrindaban Road and Ajhai stations in the Mathura-Palwal section, affected services on three lines.
Prashasti Srivastava, Deputy Chief Manager and Public Relations Officer of the DRM office in Agra, confirmed that traffic on the third line was restored at 10:30 PM on Thursday, allowing a goods train from Delhi to pass through. “Traffic on the UP and DOWN lines is now running smoothly, with several trains already passing through the restored line,” she stated.
However, work to restore the first and second lines is still ongoing, and officials indicated it will take some time to complete these repairs. During the disruption, only down traffic was permitted on the fourth line, leading to the cancellation or diversion of numerous trains.
The derailment affected around 30 trains on the route, prompting the deployment of nearly 500 workers to clear the tracks. Divisional Railway Manager Tej Prakash Agarwal noted that twenty-five wagons of the coal-laden train, en route to the Suratgarh power plant in Rajasthan, derailed without causing any injuries.
North Central Railway General Manager Upendra Chandra Joshi emphasized that clearing the track is the top priority, with further investigations into the incident to follow. While the exact cause of the derailment is still under investigation, officials are considering all possibilities, including sabotage.
Joshi mentioned that necessary equipment and an accident relief train (ART) have been requisitioned from Agra, Delhi, and Moradabad to expedite the repair process.
