King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Thursday. The two leaders shared a cordial handshake and walked together before sitting down for discussions aimed at furthering their countries’ longstanding ties.

External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar also met with the Bhutan king. In a post on X, Jaishankar wrote, “Called on His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck today. Discussed the steady progress that India and Bhutan partnership is making. Value his guidance for its future growth. Also assured India’s fullest support for the development goals of Bhutan.”

The King, accompanied by Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck, arrived in New Delhi earlier on Thursday for a two-day official visit to India. They were warmly received by EAM Jaishankar, who took to social media to express his enthusiasm about the visit.

The visit highlights the enduring friendship between the two neighboring nations, rooted in shared values and mutual cooperation. Bhutan’s Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Employment, Lyonpo Namgyal Dorji, had earlier praised India as a “pillar of support and inspiration” for Bhutan. He underscored the trust between the nations, emphasizing India’s role as an enabler of Bhutan’s aspirations.
