17 Killed in Massive Fire at Firecracker Factory in Gujarat’s Deesa

Published:

Deesa, Gujarat: At least 17 workers lost their lives in a devastating fire following an explosion at a firecracker factory and warehouse in Gujarat’s Deesa on Tuesday, officials said.

The incident occurred at Deepak Traders, where a powerful blast led to a massive blaze, triggering panic and complicating rescue efforts as parts of the factory’s slab collapsed, District Collector Mihir Patel confirmed. Firefighters from Deesa Municipality, along with 108 ambulance teams, rushed to the spot to control the situation.

Patel initially reported six fatalities, but the toll climbed as rescue teams battled the flames and sifted through the debris. Preliminary findings suggest the fire was caused by a boiler explosion. The impact of the blast was so severe that sections of the building crumbled.

By late evening, the fire was brought under control, and cooling operations were in progress. Rescue teams continued clearing the debris to check for any trapped individuals. A State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team was also deployed to assist in the efforts, officials told news agency PTI.

Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the explosion, while local officials are assessing safety measures at the site.
